Successful results at the Goetz estate sale!

June 7 and June 9 were the dates selected for the Goetz antique tag sale at the home in Iowa City, known as Rose Hill for the past 170 years. The home, having been built in 1848 by Captain Frederic Macy Irish and whose family and descendants occupied the home until 1962, was subsequently bought by the Goetz family who lived there until this year.

An unbelievably huge crowd arrived over the three day period of the sale and when the sale opened on Friday evening more than 100 eager buyers were waiting in line to get in, and buy they did.  Customers were assisted by three checkout clerks who were very actively worked during the entire time period of the sale.  It has been estimated that over 1,200 visits were made to the home over the three days of the tag sale.  Spirited and competitive buying transpired to make this tag sale successful.

All three days of the sale the home was packed with buyers wall to wall and many of the buyers came each day for the increasing discounts that were offered.

Antiques of all categories were available for purchase including lots of antique jewelry, many country primitives, an antique music box with discs, nice early country furniture, Indian pottery, baskets, many old quilts and old fabric, a large selection of Majolica of all kinds, much Victorian glassware, walnut Victorian furniture, old advertising items, lots of textiles, primitive blanket boxes Victorian wicker,, a collection of antique butter molds, and many, many old historical books of all types. Hundreds of Christmas and Easter items were sold as well as much antique paper goods and ephemera.

Perhaps the highlight of the tag sale was a very rare Nile Kinnick bookend that was part of a pair and sold readily within seconds of the tag sale opening to a buyer who was purchasing it for a friend out of state.

At the conclusion of the tag sale a very small percentage of the items offered remained.  A very successful tag sale was concluded.

A thank you again to Bonnie at the Collector’s Journal for the support of the sale thru CJ advertising as usual.

Please look forward to any future antique tag sales that we may be having in the Collector’s Journal.
